Selecting the Ideal Wood Furniture

You will find hardly any issues more enjoyable than having the ability to finish and then care for your beautiful wood furniture. Getting to decide on the hue of your own furnishings gives us more control over the style in our households. A lot of furniture stores understand this, and now offer several unfinished tables, chairs and dressers to people with some initiative. This document intends to provide a bit of basic tips about staining, varnishing, and then maintaining your unfinished furniture projects.

Staining unfinished wood furniture is considerably more complicated than choosing a color and applying it. Identifying the perfect stain frequently requires a discussion with an educated sales rep, and having the ability to figure out both the color you wish and the base wood you want to stain. As soon as your stain is settled on, set your work area up in a well-ventilated location with a protective covering on the flooring. Sand the wood with fine grit sandpaper, clean off the sawdust first with a rag and after that with a tack cloth. When the wood is perfectly clean, brush on the stain employing a foam brush using long, smooth strokes. You could lighten the stain promptly after applying it by just wiping it lightly using a soft, clean cloth. After that, merely give it time for the stain to dry.

Working with a different foam brush, smooth on your varnish while employing the same long, even movements that you employed to apply the stain. Do not wipe or otherwise contact the varnish until it is dry. If the piece will be employed in a potentially damp spot, as with cabin or sunroom furniture, a second or third layer of varnish can help shield the wood, in particular around all of the joints. One final point to look at is that your stain and varnish should use the same base – either water or oil.

To dust and maintain your wood furniture, work with a soft cloth with a bit of furniture polish to buff the surface and get a beautiful shine. Take care to use the same type of furniture polish for every cleaning to eliminate polish smudges. For those regularly working with a wax-based polish, you will probably regularly be required to remove the built-up furniture wax with either mineral spirits or synthetic turpentine.

A capably finished and maintained piece of wood furniturecould provide beauty for many more years. On top of that, you will furthermore have the pleasure of informing your admiring company that you were responsible for the beautiful finish they presently see on your lovely wood furniture.
