Project Planning Using 3D Architectural Visualisation

The heart of any construction project begins on the drawing board. And the architect is one of the main, if not the main player on board when it comes to design. One tool that an architect uses in his conceptualization of design and subsequent presentation and approval of others is 3D architectural visualisation.

There are basically four stages of architectural rendering. Each of these stages has different elements and complexities in providing the needed tool to the architect as aids in getting approval from project proponents and financiers. 3D architectural visualization is basically a kind of architectural rendering.

The most basic and first stage of rendering is the perspective. This is a drawing of the conceptualized building when it is done. It is the first kind of drawing mastered by design students after they have passed their basic drafting courses in school. It is the basic building block for more advanced designs and ideas and is used still be even the most veteran of architects.

The next kind or second type of rendering is the scale model. It is a scale model of the entire finished project giving an overall feel for the finished building. It usually comes complete with landscaped scenes and looks very much like a diorama. These scale models are most often encased in glass for protection and preserved even after the project is finished.

The 3D model is the third type of rendering and is much more complex than the first two types. It is basically a computer generated model of the finished project complete with floor plans and the like. The advantage of this type of rendering is that it can be stored on hard disk and emailed to various users for comments and design changes.

The fourth and most complex rendering is the 3D architectural visualization. This is a more advanced and complex form of the 3d model. It can produce simulated walkthroughs of rooms and parts of the building conceptualized and can make use of speech and music elements. Due to its overall detail it is usually used as a marketing aid in presentations.

These 3D renderings are invaluable not only to give an overall feel of the project to see if it is viable or aesthetically appealing, but also as a marketing tool in getting financing or investor approval. Likewise housing boards, developers, and housing companies make use of one or all of these renderings to secure planning permission and city engineer approvals. And their usefulness does not only stop there, since these renderings can be used over and over again until the project ends.
